All of us, at some point in our lives, will have received a \u2018thanks but no thanks\u2019 email or phone call. It\u2019s tough. No one likes the feelings associated with rejection and being discounted for a role \u2013 especially one you may have had your heart set on \u2013 can be incredibly discouraging.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, it\u2019s only with the lessons learnt from unsuccessful interviews that we can take a refreshed approach to job hunting.<\/p>\n<p>While some interviewers might be reluctant to do so, we\u2019d recommend asking all your interviewers for feedback as soon as possible. We understand that some of the comments might be hard to hear, however being defensive is possibly the worst way to react in this circumstance. Digest the feedback, talk about it with your <a href=\"\/?p=1256\">recruiter<\/a>, and once you\u2019ve given the comments proper consideration, think about how you might be able to turn the negatives into positives for <a href=\"\/?p=1328\">future interviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Below are some of the most common reasons we\u2019ve heard from clients when candidates haven\u2019t been successful:<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. \u201cThey didn\u2019t seem particularly enthusiastic about the role or the business.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This comment could be interpreted in a few ways. It could be that you haven\u2019t completed your research and aren&#8217;t able to articulate why you want to work for them. It might also come down to general demeanour and <a href=\"https:\/\/tiger-recruitment.com\/job-seekers\/body-language-talks-5-simple-rules-present-interview\/\">body language<\/a>. While we appreciate nerves also play a part, try to relax into meetings and be your friendliest self.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. \u201cThey were late.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While we will never advocate being late, we also understand that circumstances beyond your control can play a role in a late arrival. It\u2019s not so much being late that causes problems; what matters is how you behave as a result. If a recruiter has organised the interview for you, ensure you contact the recruiter as soon as you\u2019re aware you\u2019re running late, so they can be in touch with the interviewer. If you\u2019ve organised the interview directly, call the interviewer and let them know. You should then be as apologetic as possible upon arrival.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. \u201cThey didn\u2019t have relevant experience to the job.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This is a tricky one because obviously, the hiring manager has seen your <a href=\"https:\/\/tiger-recruitment.com\/looking-for-a-job\/candidate-resources\/cv-tips\/\">CV<\/a> and still wants to meet you. What you\u2019re likely to need to address in the interview is the relevance of your previous experience to the job at hand. Before you go into the meeting, think about each position description role requirement, and note down clear examples in your work experience to date that demonstrate those same skills and competencies.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. \u201cThey just weren\u2019t the right fit.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Again, this is a tough one, as \u2018fit\u2019 often can\u2019t properly be articulated or defined. What we do know though is that not being the right fit often translates to the candidate being too nervous or not letting their personality shine through. Skills and experience are just as important as having the right attitude and getting on with your team. When interviewers meet you, they want to like you and they want to believe that you\u2019ll enhance their business\u2019s culture. The best way you can demonstrate this is to try and keep those nerves at bay and simply be yourself. If you\u2019re still not the right fit, then maybe\u2026 you\u2019re just not the right fit.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it\u2019s not meant to be. We understand that.
